Makro Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Makro browser extension (“Makro”, “the Extension”) operated by TechHQ USA, LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”). By installing or using Makro, you agree to these Terms.

1. Service Description

Makro is a browser extension that provides text expansion, macro management, and productivity features. Makro is offered in three tiers:

Free: Local macro storage, text expansion, unlimited categories, clipboard history with optional auto-clear, statistics, privacy controls (Local AI only, Auto-clear clipboard), local AI (Ollama or LM Studio), and 25 Makro Credits/month (for Smart Rewrite and Translation). No cloud sync.
Pro: Everything in Free, plus cloud sync across devices, 500 Makro Credits/month, semantic search, advanced placeholders, macro version history, and additional device capacity.
Premium: Everything in Pro, plus 10,000 Makro Credits/month (vs 500 in Pro) and additional device capacity.

Beta features. Smart Variants (context-aware macro bodies), Smart Copy (image-to-text extraction), and conditional placeholders [$IF:…]…[$ELSE]…[$ENDIF] are currently beta-gated and not part of any tier’s standard feature set. Access requires both a paid subscription (Pro or Premium) AND a beta access flag on your license, granted on signup at makroexpander.com/beta. Beta features are described in full in Section 6.5.

A free 30-day Pro trial is available inside the extension as described in Section 3.6.

2. License and Use

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Makro in accordance with these Terms. You may install Makro on your personal devices for personal or professional productivity use. You may not resell, sublicense, or otherwise provide Makro as a service to third parties without our prior written consent.

3. Subscription and Payments

3.1 Free Tier

The Free tier is available at no cost and may be used indefinitely.

3.2 Paid Tiers (Pro and Premium)

Paid subscriptions are managed through Polar.sh. By purchasing a subscription, you also agree to Polar.sh’s terms of service. Subscription pricing, billing cycles, and cancellation are handled through your Polar.sh account. We may change subscription pricing and plan features from time to time. Any changes to pricing will apply to future billing periods and, where required by law, we will provide advance notice before such changes take effect.

3.3 License Keys

Each paid subscription includes a license key. You are responsible for keeping your license key confidential. Sharing license keys is prohibited and may result in subscription termination.

3.4 Device Limits

Free: 1 device
Pro: Up to 2 devices per subscription
Premium: Up to 3 devices per subscription

A “device” means a unique browser profile where the Extension is activated with your license key. If you reach your device limit, you will need to deactivate an existing device before activating a new one. Shared use of a single license across unrelated users or teams is not permitted.

3.5 Refund Policy

Subscriptions (Pro and Premium): Subscription payments are non-refundable once your billing cycle begins. You may cancel at any time through your Polar.sh account to prevent future charges, but no refunds will be issued for the current or prior billing periods. We recommend using the free 30-day trial (see Section 3.6) to evaluate Pro features before purchasing.

One-time purchases (Lifetime Deal): One-time purchases include a 14-day money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied, contact support@makroexpander.com within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. After 14 days, one-time purchases are non-refundable.

Makro Credits: Makro Credits reset monthly (on the 1st of each calendar month, regardless of billing cycle) and do not accumulate; they are not separately refundable. Each month begins with a fresh allocation at your tier’s rate. Subscription refunds are not affected by how many Makro Credits were consumed or remained unused. See Section 6.2 for the full terms governing Makro Credits.

3.6 Free Trial

Makro offers a free 30-day Pro trial through our payment processor, Polar.sh. Trial activation collects a payment method to prevent abuse and to enable seamless conversion at trial end. You will not be charged during the 30-day period. You may cancel at any time through your Polar.sh account to prevent conversion to a paid subscription. After the trial ends, your card will be charged for the Pro subscription unless you cancel. During the trial, you have full access to Pro features including cloud sync, Smart Rewrite, semantic search, and auto-backup. Polar.sh enforces one trial per email/payment method to prevent abuse. If you cancel before the trial ends, Pro features are paused at the end of the trial period and your macros remain safely on your device.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling the Extension
Using the Extension to store, transmit, or process illegal content
Attempting to circumvent subscription tier restrictions or device limits
Using the AI features to generate spam, malware, or harmful content
Sharing, reselling, or redistributing license keys
Using automated tools to abuse API rate limits or quotas
Interfering with the operation of our servers or services

5. Telemetry

Makro sends a weekly anonymous heartbeat to our servers with two independent tiers. Tier 1 (basic analytics) includes extension version, browser platform, locale, country (derived from IP by Cloudflare), subscription tier, aggregate counts (macros, expansions, categories), estimated time saved, and days since install. Tier 2 (detailed analytics, disabled by default) adds browser name, AI provider, theme, last import format, and a list of enabled feature toggles. Your device ID is one-way hashed (SHA-256) before transmission; we cannot link heartbeats to your identity. Your IP address is used only for rate limiting and discarded within 24 hours. This data is used solely for aggregate product analytics (e.g. version adoption, platform distribution, feature prioritization). The heartbeat is best-effort (silently dropped if offline) and auto-deleted after 1 year. No macro content, browsing activity, or personal information is included. This data is never sold, shared, or provided to third parties. Both tiers can be independently enabled or disabled via Settings > Privacy Controls. 6. AI Features Disclaimer

6.1 AI-Generated Content

The Smart Rewrite and Semantic Search features use open-source AI models running on our own infrastructure (Cloudflare Workers AI). AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or unintended outputs. You are solely responsible for reviewing and using AI-generated content. AI-generated content is provided for general informational purposes only and does not constitute legal, financial, medical, or other professional advice.

6.2 AI Usage Limits and Nature of Makro Credits

All users receive a monthly Makro Credits quota (Free: 25/month, Pro: 500/month, Premium: 10,000/month). Makro Credits are consumed by Smart Rewrite and Translation features. Semantic search (embeddings) is unlimited for Pro and Premium tiers. Smart Copy (OCR) is currently beta-gated and not consuming Makro Credits during the beta period; per-tier quota arrangements for Smart Copy will be published in Section 6.5 if and when it leaves beta. Quotas reset on the first day of each month. We reserve the right to adjust quotas with reasonable notice.

Makro Credits are not a stored value account, prepaid access instrument, digital wallet, currency, or legal tender. They are a monthly allocation of usage rights tied to your active Makro subscription (or the Free tier allotment). Makro Credits have no cash value, are not redeemable, refundable, or exchangeable for any sum of money or other monetary value, and do not confer any personal property right. Makro Credits cannot be purchased or topped up separately from a subscription, and cannot be sold, gifted, traded, or transferred between users or subscriptions.

Makro Credits reset on the first day of each calendar month, regardless of whether your subscription is billed monthly or annually. Each month begins with a fresh allocation at your tier’s rate (Free: 25, Pro: 500, Premium: 10,000); unused credits from the prior month are replaced by the new allocation rather than added to it. Unused credits within a month do not entitle you to any refund, cash balance, credit roll-over, or other compensation. For clarity, subscription refunds are governed by Section 3.5 and are not affected by the number of Makro Credits consumed or remaining at any point.

6.3 Content Filtering

AI requests are subject to safety filters. Content that violates our acceptable use policy may be blocked. We are not responsible for content that is filtered or refused.

6.4 Availability

AI features (Smart Rewrite, Semantic Search) depend on our cloud infrastructure and may be temporarily or permanently unavailable due to infrastructure outages, model changes, rate limiting, or service discontinuation. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of AI features and are not liable for any loss or inconvenience resulting from their unavailability.

6.5 Beta Features

Certain Makro features are designated as “beta” and are available only to users who have signed up at makroexpander.com/beta and been granted beta access on their license. As of the date above, beta features include Smart Variants (context-aware macro bodies), conditional placeholders ([$IF:…]…[$ELSE]…[$ENDIF]), and Smart Copy (OCR / image-to-text extraction). Beta features are provided on an “AS IS” basis and may change, degrade, or be removed at any time without notice. Eligibility is gated by your active subscription tier together with a beta access flag on your license; we may grant, revoke, or modify beta access at our sole discretion. Beta features are not covered by any availability, performance, or fitness-for-purpose representation, and your use of them is at your own risk. Refund eligibility under Section 3.5 is unaffected by changes to, or removal of, beta features.

7. Cloud Sync

7.1 Encryption

Cloud sync uses end-to-end encryption (AES-256-GCM). We cannot read your synced macro content.

7.2 Sensitive Data Warning

While your macros are encrypted both locally and in the cloud, Makro is not a password manager or secrets vault. Anyone with access to your browser or your device can open the extension, trigger your hotwords, and view your macro content in plaintext. Do not store passwords, API keys, authentication tokens, financial credentials, or other sensitive secrets in your macros. We are not responsible for unauthorized access to sensitive information stored in macros.

Makro provides optional privacy controls under Settings > Privacy: “Local AI only” restricts all AI processing to your device, and “Auto-clear clipboard” automatically clears sensitive clipboard entries after a configurable delay. These features are provided as convenience tools and do not guarantee complete protection of sensitive data.

7.3 Data Loss

Cloud sync is provided as a convenience feature and is not intended as a primary data store or backup solution. While we take reasonable precautions to protect synced data, we are not liable for any data loss, corruption, or synchronization errors, whether caused by software bugs, server outages, encryption key changes, device changes, or any other reason. You are solely responsible for maintaining local backups of your macros using the Extension’s export feature. We strongly recommend exporting your macros regularly. If Makro or its cloud services are discontinued, we will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice so that you can export your macros. However, we do not guarantee that synced data will remain accessible after discontinuation.

7.4 Service Availability

Cloud sync and all server-dependent features are provided on an “as available” basis. We do not guarantee any specific level of uptime, availability, or performance. Service may be interrupted, degraded, or discontinued at any time due to maintenance, infrastructure issues, third-party provider outages, or business decisions. We are not liable for any loss, damage, or inconvenience resulting from service interruptions or discontinuation.

8. Intellectual Property

You retain full ownership of your macros, text, and other content. We claim no rights to your content. Your synced data is encrypted and inaccessible to us.

9. Privacy

Your use of Makro is also governed by our Privacy Policy. By using Makro, you consent to the data practices described therein.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TECHHQ USA, LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF MAKRO.

WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

LOSS OR CORRUPTION OF MACROS, CATEGORIES, SETTINGS, OR ANY OTHER USER DATA, WHETHER STORED LOCALLY OR IN THE CLOUD
UNAVAILABILITY OR MALFUNCTION OF AI FEATURES, INCLUDING SMART REWRITE AND SEMANTIC SEARCH
SERVICE OUTAGES, DOWNTIME, OR INTERRUPTIONS TO CLOUD SYNC OR ANY OTHER SERVER-DEPENDENT FEATURE
ERRORS, INACCURACIES, OR UNINTENDED OUTPUTS FROM AI-GENERATED CONTENT
FAILURE OF TEXT EXPANSION, CLIPBOARD HISTORY, OR ANY OTHER EXTENSION FEATURE
INCOMPATIBILITY WITH SPECIFIC WEBSITES, BROWSERS, OR BROWSER UPDATES
DATA SYNCHRONIZATION CONFLICTS, DELAYS, OR FAILURES ACROSS DEVICES

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR YOUR SUBSCRIPTION IN THE 3 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Warranty Disclaimer

MAKRO IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE EXTENSION WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY DATA STORED OR TRANSMITTED THROUGH THE EXTENSION WILL BE PRESERVED, ACCURATE, OR RECOVERABLE. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT AI FEATURES WILL PRODUCE ACCURATE, APPROPRIATE, OR USEFUL RESULTS.

YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU USE MAKRO AT YOUR OWN RISK AND THAT YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING BACKUPS OF YOUR DATA.

12. Termination

12.1 By You

You may stop using Makro at any time by uninstalling the Extension. You may cancel your paid subscription through your Polar.sh account.

12.2 By Us

We may suspend or terminate your access to paid features if you violate these Terms, including but not limited to sharing license keys or abusing API rate limits. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before termination.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by updating the “Last Updated” date and, where appropriate, via in-product notice or email. Continued use of Makro after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
