A Credit is one unit of AI processing on our cloud infrastructure. Smart Rewrite costs 1 credit per call. Translate costs 1 credit per call. Smart Copy (OCR) on-device text extraction is free for everyone and consumes no Makro Credits; its optional cloud AI cleanup (1 credit) and Vision (3 credits) paths are available on every tier, including Free, and are metered against your credits, while local (Ollama / LM Studio) cleanup is free on every tier.
Unused credits don't roll over to the next month. Local providers like Ollama and LM Studio use zero credits - they run on your machine, on your compute, using your electricity, and Makro never touches the network for those.
With 500 credits (Pro), a typical user runs 10-20 AI operations a day without ever thinking about the count. With 10,000 credits (Premium), you stop thinking about the count entirely.
