Beyond Text: Makro's Image Text Extraction

Makro extracts text from images using its Smart Copy feature. This function uses on-device optical character recognition (OCR) with Tesseract.wasm, processing images directly in your browser for speed and privacy. All Makro users, including those on the Free plan, can use this.

To extract text, right-click an image and select the extract text option. You can then refine the extracted text with Makro's Smart Rewrite feature or copy it.

Makro also offers optional AI cleanup and structuring of extracted text through Cloudflare Workers AI. These features use Makro Credits. The basic on-device OCR extraction is free for all users.

For offline processing, Makro supports local AI providers like Ollama and LM Studio. Using these providers means image text extraction and AI processing consume no Makro Credits and require no internet connection after setup.

Smart Copy provides useful tools for all users. The image-to-text functionality is available to everyone, regardless of their plan.
